2 Backup Jobs 1 Differential

Using Veritas BackupExec 9.1.  Can I create two backups. i.e. backup my share folders with one full  backup job, then backup my home directories with another backup job, then run a differenatial backup for the rest of the week?  My share folders and home directories are hugh and i want their backup to run on two different days.  Then the rest of the week i want a diff job to run covering all those files previously backuped using the two fulls.  Thanks.

Just create and schedule two different backups of the files (areas you need)

Then to make restoring easier do a seperate differential for each of the two areas.

If they are that large you may want to consider incrementals as they are quicker to run but more painful to restore from.

Just for information.

A full backup resets the archive bit on a file thus saying that it has been backed up.

A differential does not change this bit so it gets all files since the last backup.

An incremental does change this bit, so it only backs up the files since the last full or incremental.

So for above, if your two areas you want to back up do not overlap then two seperate backups will work.
