There is no problems with it, if you have an acceptable use policy in place that states you have that right. We currently have to do it for legitation purposes and everything else. Also with new laws being passed more and more companies are making it a standard to do it.

there is a difference, a big difference, between archiving email for regulatory/litigation purposes, and 'monitor users mails'. Makes it sound like you're sitting around at your desk arbitrarily reading people's email.
