I've been asked to bring a website down by the President. The site is hosted on IIS 6.0 and is hosted internally to the network. The site should be running but when the people go to www.mydomain.com the page should display "Page under construction".
How do i do this?

Create a default document (default.html) with your under construction message and place that in the web root of your website on the server. Make sure there are no other default documents sitting in that web root and that should get you sorted.

In IIS, go to the properties for your website. On the Documents tab, select the entry for DEFAULT.HTML and click the up arrow to bring that to the top of the list of default documents. If DEFAULT.HTML does not exist there, add it to the list and move it to the top of the list. Apply the changes and do a CTRL-F5 in your browser to do a full refresh.
