"Publish" does not work for me.

I am trying to publish a working web service, but when I push the Publish button, I get nothing.  The web service works fine on my VS 2005 environment, but I must be doing something wrong.

I selected the "http://mydomainname.com" choice.

How do I do the ftp?  Is it "ftp:mydomainname.com" or "ftp.mydomainname.com"?

Any idea what could be wrong?  Is it IIS?  What might it be?

thanks,
newbieweb

I assume you have a web space alllocated to you that you can publish to?
they (the ISP) should give you the FTP details to be able to publish to their site.
usulaly in the form  FTP Server (some like ftp.yourdomain.com)  then Username (usually yourdomain.com) and password (some password you set up)
IIS is the sofware that IS the website and allows HTTP protocol to run etc...

if the website is  internal (i.e. on your LAN) you must have a web server settup (using IIS) on the local network that you can FTP to. b (talk to your admin perso for details)

I am the admin person....

this works in FileZilla - "ftp.yourdomain.com"

but when I try it in the Publish Web dialog, I get an error: "The publish target is not a valid disk path or URL.  Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined."

Sometimes when I have trouble publishing, this is what I do. (This is not an ideal solution, but it worked for me).

I publish the "project" to another directory location on my local machine. Then I take the compiled, "published" website, and just manually copy the files over to the real destination server.

yes, that's what I have done.  It got me past the problem so now I am debugging it.
