Exchange auto delete mail by date

I need a way to automatically delete all mail on an Exchange server before a specific date. I want all email to only be accessible for two years. For example I would want all mail older than 10/4/2005 to be deleted as of 10/4/2007 giving us a retention policy of 2 years. When it is October 4th 2008 I would only want mail to be on the server newer than 10/4/2006.

What you are looking for is called the Mailbox Management Process.  Below are a few links that will get you started and up and running in no time.

How to exlcude uers from the Mailbox Management process: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=288115

Remeber that once you delete the messages they still aren't gone.  If you have a retention length set on deleted e-mails they will sit there until that time has expired.  Once that time has expired there will still be white space inside your Exchange database.  Until you do an offline defragmentation of the database you will not be saving any room.

Offline Defragmentation Instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192185/EN-US/

Hope that helps!

(FYI, if you know the answer to the same issue in GroupWise with this much detail I have another 500 question for you)
