Generate a csv file using forms 9 and ORACLE iAS

Hi,
please advise with an example how can I generate a csv file using ORACLE developer 9 and ORACLE iAS 9. A form? a Report? The CSV file must be saved in a local machine.

Regards
Diana

you can generate it using SQL+, just set proper settings

set nls_date_format = 'yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mi:ss'
set heading off
set pagesize 0
set colsep ,
set linesize 1000
spool x.lst
select ...
spool off

Oracle Forms has IO_TEXT package, but it creates files on the App. Server.

In Reports you can define the output as DELIMITEDDATA (that stands
for Excel files). Such reports could be invoked either directly from Reports
Server or from Forms.

Additioanlly Reports server can email as attachment automatically
the file.

Such files can be easily imported in Excel using the Import tab
of the Excel Sheet. The only small problem is that you have
to advise the Delimeter Character (Comma or Tab character).

konektor,

thanks for the solution, but unfortunately the file needs to be generated from the application.

schwertner:
I like both solutions, in fact I tried to generate the file with DELIMITED, I thought DELIMITEDDATA is just for version 10 (I am using version 9), the problem I faced with the DELIMITED is that for some reason the report is not being generated and I guess the problem is the path because I want the report to be saved on the client (local machine) due it contains restricted data. Can you please provide me some guidance on this?

I use successfully Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33

I think more important is the Reporst server:  It is 10.1.2 (OAS and also Standalone Reports Server).

If you invoke the report via reports Server the client can save the report
where he want.

You can create a *.csv file from forms. You have to attach WEBUTIL.PLL to your form and then use client_text_io package. This package is like TEXT_IO package in client/server.

You can use it, because the WEBUTIL has started in forms 9i.
