Samsung Syncmaster 171P monitor powers up but will not receive or display a video signal

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 171P monitor that powers up, but will not receive or display a video signal from a VGA card. I would rather repair it than add it to the landfill. The monitor shows a green power light, but a video signal from VGA or DVI input does not appear on the screen.

When I was moving my household last winter this monitor fell down the stairs and struck my little brother. Fortunately my brother was not hurt. Unfortunately the monitor broke.

Does anyone have suggestions to repair the monitor?

Thanks very much.

Hi Eric,  I've had a 173P & it's done a similar trick on me, without the fall ! There was no specific reason I can point out why all osf a sudden it started to work, but I did give it fair try twiddling. Kind of standard stuff :  clean & check connections, check if device drivers are correct & have no problem. If this don't work for you then, unless you get to scavenge old parts (screen? logic card?) off another monitor of the same kind, it's not worth spending on new parts. It seems the power goes 'on' fine, so you can eleiminate the 12V DC adapter from the trobleshooting. Good luck!
