When a store a file path in a variable, like "c:\pic\"
the variable stores "c:\\pic\\.

ok. seems like a poor choice of escape charector to me.

how do i get rid of the extra backslash when i go to use the variable?

    >the variable stores "c:\\pic\\.
no, it's only "display" like that. the real value is "c:\pic\"
