Bridge Connections?

In Network Places, when I go under properties, there is an option that says Bridge Connections.  What does that mean and when would someone use it?

A device that connects two local-area networks (LANs), or two segments of the same LAN that use the same protocol, such as Ethernet or Token-Ring. Please read link below:

And how to:

So basically, if I have two ethernet cards in a machine, I can make them act like a hub?

G'day,

It's like connecting one type on interface to another. Ethernet to FireWire

Typically in Windows XP, it'll bridge two connections the Ethernet to a 1394 (FireWire) port. So you can run TCP/IP over firewire. The other common one is Ethernet to Wireless so you relay the network from your built in ethernet to a wireless network.

But don't confuse this with sharing. Sharing normally creates what's called a NAT which divides your network with the external network.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Arthur

For example, if you have a computer with a nic card that has no connection to the internet and you have a laptop with wireless connection and a LAN port, you can connect to a wireless network and bridge that internet through your laptop to the desktop.

Do you have 2 internal adapters?
maybe you have added a network card and have an onboard network card?
Maybe this guide can explain it better
