Huge Windows Installer Folder

I have a server which has 17GB of files in the Windows\Installer folder.
Most of the files within are .msp files (eg. 1adc3ae1.msp) and most of them are the same size (95,104 KB). There are over 260 files in total.
I assume they are something to do with updates. Can anyone confirm their purpose and if I am OK to delete them?

Thanks for that. Does that mean I am safe to delet the msp files already there?

Should be safe, i would temporarily move them as a precaution.

Yes, deletion of file is pretty safe,  but better install Windows Installer anyway to prevent this folder growing up.
