What is WLAN and what are some good examples of it?

Hi Everyone:

I am wondering what is meant by WLAN or Wide Local Area Network.  And, if possible, could someone provide examples to capture their explanations of WLAN?

       Thank you

WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network.(being the wireless network all people at home have who have wireless routers/modems)

>< being opposite of

WAN = Wide Area Network (used in companies)
I think you are confusing WLAN and WAN.
WLAN - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_LAN
WAN - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_area_network

Hi There:

Thanks so much for the resourceful links.  The information contained within them cleared everything up.  I now understand the difference between a WLAN and WAN.  While there was much information contained within the links, I quicly was able to translate these acronyms into simpler, more understandable terms.  Basically, the WLAN can be thought of as an intranet or a set of networked computers generally seen within a small home or business type of environment.  In contrast, the best example of a WAN would be the internet which is an network of computers which cut across geographical boundaries which is regional and even global.

Many thanks again for the help.
