Using HTML, does anyone know a good solution as to why sometimes we get an output of: £ rather than £?

We have tried £ and £. We have also tried to declare different character sets, yet no joy!

When you declare a different character set, do you change the settings in your editor and save the file using that character set? In that case I think you should be able to use the £ character directly. Another option is to use £ with UTF-8.

Hi - thanks for your response.

I've double checked the file, and that is saved in UTF-8. The data is passed by a form where both the sending and receiving has the following declared:

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

and for good measure, at the top of the document is:
<?php header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); ?>

I have tried no: £, &pound and &#163; - all of which render: £

New Info - It turns out that this is only a problem when the data is sent through via email, rather than on screen. I must be missing something relatively simple here!

Right - sorted! The mail function file wasn't saved using utf-8! Many thanks for the help! Have some points!
