NBX, SIP, OCS/Exchange 2007 and Unified Communications

Hey guys,

We have a 3COM V3000 Version 5 and we'd love to use Unified Communications with it via Exchange 2007 and Office Communicator 2007.  Apparently our voice mail is not SIP compatible.   I am not familiar with how SIP actually works and what we need to make it work with our NBX.  Any suggestions on what we could do to become compatible with SIP with our V3000.

Thanks for the time and advice!

You will need a SIP gateway. This will sit between Exchange and your PBX.
The first thing I would suggest is that you speak to your phone system maintainer to see if they support a particular one.
Otherwise there is a list on Microsoft's web site of the gateways that they have tested.

As Exchange 2007 can replace your voicemail service, you could look at replacing the whole lot with SIP compatible hardware. There are a number of open source solutions that work, which allow you to use any SIP telephones.

Simon.
