Problem installing Windows SBS 2003 SP2 on a SBS 2003 server.

I'm having a problem installing Windows SBS 2003 SP2 on a SBS 2003 server. I'm getting the following error when trying to install the SP using the file I downloaded: "The system cannot find the path specified." When I try to install from Windows updates I just get a message that the installation failed. I've tried the steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 to no avail. When I install the downloaded file it extracts to an external hard drive not the drive I've downloaded to.

Any ideas?

you should be able to copy the files over to your main drive and run the install. Sometimes too if your machine can't find the path it helps to map a drive to that folder and just specify the drive rather than the path.

First, you need to realize that this is not Windows SBS 2003 SP2, but rather it's Windows Server 2003 SP2.

So... have you fully installed SBS SP1? (All 5 components per http://sbsurl.com/sp1 )?

If so, then please review the issues regarding SP2 at http://sbsurl.com/sp2

I've tried to install the first of the 5 components of SP1 but I receive the same error message. I will look at the links you've sent. I appreciate it.

Well the first of the 5 components is Windows Server 2003 SP1. So if you haven't been able to install that, you need to focus on why that is.

Please post the output from running SYSTEMINFO at a command prompt.

I've gone through all of the steps and found that everything is fine except the c:\ClientApps folder was on a different drive (I:\). I then modified the registry as suggestted to point to I:\ but that did not fix the problem. I then moved the folders back to c:\ClientApps and I'm still getting the same error message (the system cannot find the file specified).

Should the program be extracting to e:\ or to where the exe was downloaded to? If it should not be extracting to e:\ then how do I correct this?

How about looking in the ServicePack log file to see exactly what file it's looking for?
