250 GB is the highest i have seen  recently on a SATA or IDE. But the rpm on them are around 5400. If you are thinking of upgrading you laptop HDD i would suggest you go with faster rpm like 7200. I recently upgraded my laptop hdd and was facing the same question. I had a 40 GB hdd with 5400 rpm and upgraded to 100GB with 7200rpm. :)
