Excel opening in Browser without dialog to open/save first

Hello, I have asp.net program I wrote which exports a crystal report to excel. On my computer when I choose to export to excel I get a dialog box to either open or save the excel file. If I choose open my excel opens and the file is viewed. If I choose save I can save my excel file.

Some users who use the program are not given the opportunity/ the dialog box to open or save the excel file. The file is opened in a browser window and there is no option to save the file.

How can I reconfigue the users machine to have the open/save dialog box as I Have???

In your page when ou are exporting the excel please have this header and try.
"Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=myfile.xls"

Thanks asvforce for you comment. Not sure that would work as the export function is coming from the crystal object and not any export functionality I have control of.

Try this setting on the user's computer

>Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
>On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
>On the File Types tab, click the appropriate file type in the Registered File Types box.
>Click the Advanced button
>Click to select the Confirm Open After Download check box.
>Click OK, and then click OK.

as you can see from crgary_tx, this is a setting on the client's machine .. so there is no way you can control the dialog from your web server ..

I also think crgary_tx's comment is on track; just haven't been able to get it to work yet. The user is on IE 7 which does not have folder options in the tools menu. So we went to the my computer route and made sure the confirm open after downloaded was checked and then unchecked browse in same window. This did not solve the problem however.

Yes, the option is not for the browser, but for the computer .. what you might have changed might be for the xls file and the I think export option of crystal sends the file as "CSV" .. so you will need to make that change to the "CSV" file type ...

The actual issue was on two of our Citrix servers rather than the client, but the procedure provided work when applied to those servers. It appears the bug only affected those that when through those Citrix boxes and none of the others.
