Widescreen resolution problems

Hi Experts,
                  i use an Acer 1640 widescreen laptop. On installed Windows XP Black i find my max screen resolution to be 1024*768. The screen looks stretched. Is there a way i can get a higher resolution or any other way to solv e this?

You just have to change the screen resolution:
To change your screen resolution
1. Open Display in Control Panel.
2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply.
3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.
4. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

If it still does not work. You just have to update your video drivers, which can be downloaded from the ACER website. Hope this helps.

HI skree358 , i did that.. the only resolutions avail are 1024*768 and 800*600.. how can i get a higher one? can u help me with the link..

To download the video drivers, go to this site:

Select Notebook>Aspire 1640>Intel VGA Driver.

installing skree358.. thanx a lot.. also, i m not getting any volume out of my laptop (its gt inbuilt speakers).. can u please help me on that too..

Sure, just click on the same link I posted, but this time, just select Realtek Audio driver under download. I guess you just did a fresh OS reinstall. If you need what else needs to be installed, just go to the device manager and see if there are still any question marks and post it here. To go to the device manager, click start, right click on my computer, go to manage, and click on device manager on the left.

M not able to go to manage.. the "My Computer" link on Start Menu is not allowing a right-click n also m not able to drag-drop it to the desktop.. :(

i customized it enable drag-drop.. it wrked.. :)

i have a couple of question marks under Other devices :

              Modem Device on High Def Audio Bus
              Network Controller.
Can u help me get these sree..
