Assuming you are running windows XP you should find your documents under c:\documents and settings\{username}

Where the username is the user you were logging in as before this happened.  You should find some other folders such as all users and default.

You didn't say if you were now able to boot into your old profile and not into "safe mode".  If you can only boot into safe mode you most likely have a driver issue or something going on.  But thats a who other issue.

You should be able to browse the folders under c:\documents and settings from safe mode.  If you can and find your files, I would copy them to a new directory on your system in case you have to re-install and inadvertantly over write the profile.

More information on your problem would be helpful.

I'm not sure where the default folders are for Windows Vista user profiles.  But the principle would be the same.   there is a directory created for each user on the system.

Windows vista does have system restore option also that you can access from safemode.  search microsofts site on how to access it in Vista.

A way to find the default direcotories is to create a new user in control panel, make sure the name is differenet and easy.  Then search the hard drive for a folder with that user name.

Greetings jpnmore !

In Windows Vista, documents folder is in C:\Users\<username> folder.  It is a hidden folder, so you have to unhide hidden folders to see it.

Hope this helps, war1

have you tried searching for any document which was present in your my documents folder to check if it can find it/them anywhere on the system?

if they are really lost, then use GetDataBack to recover them
