Eror installing / configuring MSDE for use of SBSMonitoring and Sharepoint

We had some troubles installing WSS 3.0, after a couple of weeks when everything was working ok the management decided to uninstall it since they weren't going to use it. We uninstalled it and there were problems with WSUS, so I uninstalled WSUS in the hope that I could reinstall it but no way to reinstall it at about the same time there was problem with the SBSMONITORING it didn't work anymore.
Long story short uninstalled it and I'm trying to reinstall it but keep getting the same error

Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (WSUS) -- Error 1921. Service '' () could not be stopped.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services.

Any help is greatly appreciated

do you still have your MMSDE installed in the machine ? if yes then can you check whether the service is running

control pnl --> services --> sql service for your msde...try starting it and check again
or there will be a SQL Server ICON on youSYSTRAY near the bottom right corner of your windows...check whether the server is running and that any instance name is specified...

I have no agent running I stopped the services

MSSQL$SBSMONITORING (won't run anyway error 2 system cannot find the file specified)
Jai STech ArchCommented:
then i think the installation is a mess up becos MSDE is not able to identify the server name and hence giving it as blank...

try starting your server and unistalling...may be the server name will be accessible then...

tried that already I can't uninstall sharepoint gives an error.
Is there a way to restore the dbases to a default configuration?

I practically tried everything I found on the net

ok...this may sound little scary but it works for me all the time

- during these times where i have messaed up installations / uninstallations
- i first delete the directory of the product that you dont need...
- stop all the services realted to that and delete that directory...
- run a registry clean  utility that will remove your unwanted registry entries
and check whether the registry entires all removed by searching for sharepoint or what ever you dont wish to have...

its not a foolproof proper method...but it has to work...

I'll try this in the week-end it's too riskfull now, I'll make a full backup first and try this afterwards.
Let's hope it works.
Jai STech ArchCommented:
if we are careful in manipulating the registry entries then it is not very risky

i would also request to you to take a backup of your registry before running any reg clean program./..
