Email notifications in Backup exec 10 using pop3 account, no exchange?

T1 line, win2k3 server, backup exec 10, no exchange.  I setup a Gmail account in Outlook and was able to email myself from outlook, however I can't send a test message from Backup exec, and the job won't send one either.  I've done this using the SMTP section of backup exec port 465 but nothing is sent.  The T1 company will NOT allow us to use mail relay unless we purchase email services from them.  I read that you could use MAPI with an outlook client on the BE server.  Is there a way to use a pop3 account to send email notifications?

This tech advised to use mapi if no mail relaying is allowed by isp.  Does anyone know how to actually do this?

Although you have no Exchange, you are able to install SMTP service on Windows 2003 server for mail relay.

How can I install the SMTP service under Windows Server 2003?
