I am looking for a formula in Excel that will take a column full of middle names and keep only the first letter.  The file I extract contains full middle names, and the file I need to upload requires a middle initial only, with no period.

    Accepted Solution

If you A1 cell is having a Middle Name value like Wolf
then paste this formula in B1 as =LEFT(A1,1)
and then stretch it to all rows and you will get Inititals in B columns
and then you can copy all values from there to another excel file.
