I have one Exchange 2007 server funtioning, not as part of a cluster,  as the only Exchange server in my enterprise.   I want to make that part of an active/passive node cluster through Windows 2003.

Do I need to create the cluster before I install Exchange or can I do it after the fact?

Hi,

I'm fairly certain that you would need to have the Windows cluster installed first. If you try to install Exchange prior to that you will find that the options to install the mailbox role in a clustered config will not be available.

This is a great article walking you through this process - http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Installing-Configuring-Testing-Exchange-2007-Cluster-Continuous-Replication-Based-Mailbox-Server-Part1.html

I read that article on msexchange after I posted the question.   Yes I do agree that the cluster needs to be configured first.   Although I read article prior to reading your response I am still going to give you the points because you did answer the question.

Thank you
