WSUS Clients connecting but not installing updates

Hi,

I have WSUS version 3 installed, all updates approved and two clients connecting and showing up in the correct group.

The trouble is that the clients are not downloading all of the the updates. One of them is at 12 Updates needed.

These machines have been rebooted, I have run the following:

net stop wuauserv
REG DELETE "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /va /f

del /q/s c:\windows\softwaredistribution

net start wuauserv
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

I would make sure your group policy is set for the machines to look to the server for it's AU

The group policy is correct as the machines show up in the WSUS console (the log above shows this) and they download files to %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download but are still showing as requiring updates.

I have cleared out the %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder completely and then run


net stop wuauserv
REG DELETE "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /va /f

del /q/s c:\windows\softwaredistribution

net start wuauserv
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

My folder then gets these files:

All sorted.

The WSUS server hadn't actually finished downloading the files as it was running BITS in the background.

I brought this into the foreground and once the updates had been downloaded to the WSUS server, the clients all installed fine.

Although I solved this myself, I appreciate your input so will split points.
