I need to have something like a textbox control that can display simple HTML-formatted text.

The webbrowser-control is not an option cause I want the user to be able to change the text and the formatting.

MyMagicHtmlBox.Text = "Hello <b>world</b>"; // Should display the text "Hello world" with the word world as bold.

Does anyone know if this component exists?

Look at this WebBrowser control in edit mode. It will allow you to modify HTML text.
