How to get an ASP.Net Crystal report to prompt for parameter? VS 2005

I have not figured out how to get the ASP.Net Crystal report to prompt for a parameter.

I have the report working fine, but now want it prompt for a parameter.  I have added the parameter to the paramater list in the tool box, but now how do I actually use it?

Does it need to be added to a selection Formula?  If so how?

Thanks,

I assume by tool box you are referingot the field explorer in Crystal.

Unless the parameter is on the report somewhere, Crystal doesn't require a prompt.

Parameters are used for many things but generally in the selection formula through the REPORT --> SELECT EXPERT

I put the parameter on the report, but when the report came up it didn't prompt me?

I don't understand the select expert.  I don't see the parameter in the list at all.

I know it's probably easy, but not very intuitive.

The select expert isn't overly intuitive.

You first select the field to filter on.
Then choose the comparison.
FInally you get to choose the value or parameter.  If you are dealing with dates then the database field might be a datetime which in the select expert cannot be compared to a date.

Do you have the report saved with data?
Check FILE menu.  Uncheck save data with report.
If the report has saved data then that data is displayed and no prompting until you refresh. Save  Data with report is on by default.

I have upped the points to 500 as I need more pointers...

I have a select from a view.

Select * from ViewOne.

This view has a date field  CreationDate

I want to be able to prompt the user for this date.  But the date field returned has some time on it like 12:00:00, so I want to convert this to a string and prompt for another date string from the user no time involved.

Can this be done, via select expert and parameter?

Thanks,

Also in the selection expert the "parameter" does not show up, so I don't understand how to use it.

Where are you looking in the select expert.  It will not show until the third prompt.

One way to get around this is to use the formula editor

Open the select expert
Click SHOW FORMULA button
Click USE FORMULA EDITOR
Enter this formula
Date({CreationDateField}) = {?YourParameter}

Mimcc....

Ok, so now I get the prompt in Design mode on Refresh.  This is great.

I put it into Production and it kinda works.  Parameter page looks terrible and I am getting an error in the javascritpt behind the scene.

Any suggestions.....  You did answer the question, so I will give you the points.

I agree the Crystal default parameter page is not great.

What javascript error?  Is it code you wrote or from Crystal?

No code I wrote.  I will look into it.  I have a Master Page and this report is a content page, so maybe the parameter page doesn't know how to operate in this fashion.
