Find IP address of a switch that a workstation is conneccted to
Is there anyway to get the IP address of the switch a workstation is connected to. The layer 2/3 switches we use are 3com 3300/xm switches, which all have an IP address. What I am doing now to do this is gettng the MAC address and going to DHCP or DNS to find the IP. Do you know of any easier command or tool.
3com has a utility that comes with their switches you can use to manage to switch itself. The one I am most familiar with will actually map out the network for you, showing where everything is connected. You might try that.

Its caleld Network Supervisor. I do use this, however, noticed several switches that are coming up as unknown (CLOUD). I know the servers connected to these switches but not sure how to find the actual IP address of these switch.
Have you tried ARP? For example, type arp -a in a command prompt.
ASKER
Yes, I tried ARP. The switch does not show.
what about traceroute? It might see it since the switch is layer 3.
