Print server service locks XP on boot

XP Home PC locks/freezes at the welcome screen if the print server service is automatic.  The installed Lexmark printer disappeared under printers.  Uninstalled the Lexmark, rename printsv and reinstalled/expanded it from the XP disk.  Set the printer server service to manual and then started the print server and then installed a HP laserjet and printed a test page.   Set the print server service back to automatic and rebooted.  Same problem where it locks/freezes at the welcome screen.  Safe mode everything is ok.  I have tried disabling everything from msconfig and have all hidden temp files.

If the reg query command returns the following....

! REG.EXE VERSION 3.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler
    dependonservice     REG_MULTI_SZ    RPCSS\0Lexbce\0\0

The LexBCE service is listed as a dependency, and thats where the problems are coming from.

if the above query looks like what you have, and ONLY what you see....

reg add "hklm\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler" /v dependonservice /t reg_sz /d RPCSS /f

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

When I changed RPCSS to RPCSS\0\0 I now can start Windows.  Thank you so much.  Now when the printer tries to install I get message 'the RPC server is unavailable' .  Remote procedure calls and RPC locator are both started under services.

I did not follow your directions because I am not familiar with reg.exe so I just used regedit.
All that was there was RPCSS.  I first changed it to t reg_sz /d RPCSS /f and then windows started I then changed it to RPCSS\0\0 and it still started.  After this comnment I changed it back to RPCSS and the locking problem is back.  Please explain what/how I should do.  Sorry

Is there any Lexmark services in Windows Services? start>run>servicees.msc. If so, disable them. Also, in MSonfig, look in the Startup, and the services tab for any Lexmark itmes. uncheck them if they are present...

no lexmark services in services and msconfig has nothing related to printing.  All Lexmark software was deleted and then I removed all traces of Lexmark from the registry.  BUT... there is three references in the registry under ENum\USBprint\lexmark_2400_series\'then three references'.  I cannot remove these three keys/subkeys.  I tried removing all USB from the device manager but still I cannot delete these keys.  If the hklm\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler\dependonservice has just RPCSS then the PC locks at the welcome screen.  RPCSS\0\0 and the PC boots ok.  Thank you for your time.

I am unable to remove USBprint references from the registry.  The error message is 'error writing the values new content.  Removing USB hubs and ports via device manager does nothing.
