my oun data recovery business

I am iin the  process of starting my oun data recovery business.  I was wondering if any of you could give me any pointers as to the software, hardware and equipment which I need.  Also what to look out for as far as the gotchas and things like that.  I already have a computer with a Baracuda SATA 400GB hard drive. I also have the EasyData Recocery software. that works fairly well, but lookng for maybe better software that doesn;t cost an arm and a leg.  Well let me know of anytheing that you can think of.

Thanks in advance.

There will be things you can't recover yourself, where the disks are in too bad a shape. For such cases I'd look for recovery companies in your area you could use as partners. Google for companies that are close to you and so the shipping charges stay low, also look for companies that give you a quote on the price, and also look for such companies that don't charge you if the data isn't recoverable.

Out of the list posted by nobus above, I use getdataback regularly, and it works well (it's probably the best). Sometimes before I can use getdataback, I also have to run the HDDreg, which can sometimes revive a disk, I don't think nobus posted that. It is a software that doesn't damage the disk.

A further good way to try recover data is to use Live Linux CD's like knoppix.

The lists above are quite comprehensive, so hope I am not repeating some things, but you should also have:

Unstoppable Copier: http://www.roadkil.net/unstopcp.html
(very useful when there are a few bad spots and you want to try repeatedly, or just want to get the rest of the files off)

NTFS reader for DOS: http://www.ntfs.com/products.htm

The Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

Also, second comments by rindi about needing to partner with a company that has the hardware to deal with difficult cases. I've had good experience with Gillware (as a customer) also suggested by nobus.

Free Backup Tool for VMware and Hyper-V

Restore full virtual machine or individual guest files from 19 common file systems directly from the backup file. Schedule VM backups with PowerShell scripts. Set desired time, lean back and let the script to notify you via email upon completion.

Be aware that there are plenty of data recovery software packages that can be downloaded and run for little cost.  You will need to offer a service which goes further than this in order to attract clients.
I fix domestic and small commercial pcs.  Customers often ask me to recover data, and I tend to use GetDataBack:

However, if you advertise as a Data Recovery Service, you will need to offer more than this.  Any physical damage to the drive, and none of the available software will do it.  You will need access to a Clean Room and a lot of expensive hardware...
The Ultimate Hard disk repair and recovery tool>>> SPINRITE from grc.com
Hard disk Regenerator I've had good luck with... http://www.dposoft.net/

But I must second the use of bootable CD's like Knoppix. Be sure to check out Knoppix's dd_rescue command.

Helix is also worth a look.

And for Windows...

Good people,
After being completly inundated with programs software programs I have chosen the SpinRite.
as my first choice..
I got SpinRite and am learning how to use it.  It seems to do ok but I need more victims to truly test.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Any other favorites would be greatly appreciated.  Possibly everyones Top 10.

Also, What is the best way to advertise my data recovery service.
