EXCHANGE Information Stores fail to open after restore (Diaster Recovery)

I have an EXCHANGE 2000 server which I had to rebuild due to a lost array configuration. The server has been rebuilt from backup tapes. I am including the eventlog showing the errors for one of the stores/public folder; all the other stores are the same at the end of this post. I can start Exchange System Manager if that helps.

It seems to say that I am missing a log file  E01.log. Is there a way I can bypass this? I have restored all log files but they start at like E010BA8B.  How can I get exchange to use this as the first log file???

It isn't as simple as renaming the files is it?  What is the correct action to take from this point?

Thanks in Advance

are you perfoming a hard recovery?

vifmadminAuthor Commented:
I restore using NTBACKUP and have set the "Last Backup Set" option on. I believe that this is a Hard recovery.
My backups comprise of full backups of each storage group, hence four backups. I run the restores individually for each restore with the "Last Backup set" option checked.  Is this wrong?? Should I only set this option for the last Storage Group I wish to restore??

Network_Data_SupportCommented:
no if you are running them indivdually you will need to replay the logs on them all.

i have recovered an umountable database using eseutil /p  but it is a last resort and took a long time to complete the repair but it depends on the size of the database. but as i say it is a last resort.

Eseutil /p will attempt to repair a corrupted store database

Scenario.  You try to recover a store.edb database.  However it fails, possibly because the corresponding transaction logs are missing.  For example, you may get an error: 'The database files in this storage are inconsistent'.  To gather more information try eseutil /mh.  You determine that the state is inconsistent, after backing up the current database, you try eseutil /p.  Follow up with isinteg -fix.

Another nasty problem is that you cannot backup the store.  The worst cases are errors caused by hardware malfunction.  As a last ditch, do or die measure, you could try eseutil /p.  I was going to say backup before you try, but of course in this particular case, backup is the problem.  How about a little lateral thinking and try to copy the store before you run eseutil /p.

I found the problem.
It was that there were old log files that the recovery was trying to use. As I do full backups these logs were not required and should have been deleted.
The command to use to verify this are eseutil /ml   , eseutil /mh. I could then run the recovery using eseutil /cc.  There was no need for setting the "last set" during the NTBACKUP restore.
