How do I block the AOL ads that appear in my AOL emails?

I use AOL for some of my emailinig.  There are ads that appear at the bottom of the AOL emails that are driving me nuts ... especially the ones that "flash".  If there a way to stop the AOL ads.  I've looked at AOL help but the only thing I see to suppress are pop ups (not the AOL ads).

Thanks for any help you can give.

Greetings SLCleary !

   1.  In the AOL menu bar, click on "Keyword".
   2. Type "preferences" and hit return.
   3. Click on "Marketing".
   4. There are 5-6 items to choose from. Select the one for members-only pop-up ads.
   5. Click "Continue".
   6. Select "No, I do not want to receive special AOL members-only pop-up offers" by clicking in the little circle next to it.
   7. Do the same for all the other options in the "Marketing" window. There's no reason for you to receive SPAM from AOL or other companies by phone, US mail or email.
   8. Close all these windows.

if you want other ads block, there are a few applications which block ads for you, available for PC and Mac: NetBarrier by Intego and the free WebWasher. Or, try the free "hosts file" method outlined at SunStar Media. For many more, see Silent Way's Privacy and Ad-Busting links.

Hope this helps, war1
that's how AOL gets its funding - using ADs
I woudl recommend leaving Ao hell and going to a standard mail provider (yahoo or hotmail)
SLCleary, any update?

I had already tried the solution that war1 recommended and there are still the AOL Ads.
stop using the AOL browser and access AOL from IE7 at www.aol.com
The only thing  I found that works for this is a program called BSecure. It is not free but it sure beats looking at those annoying banner ads, etc. on AOL when trying to read or write mail and other things. BSecure (aka Cloud Care)  allows you to choose which categories you wish to block such as pornography, gambling, etc. One of the categories is advertising. This one DOES block ALL ads including AOL mail and welcome page!  yay!
