Extract video clip with MS Movie Maker

I need to get some short (10-20 seconds) video clips from a dvd to put into a powerpoint presentation.  I've extracted the dvd's to mpg and avi format, but don't know how to extract the 10 second clip from the 30 minute dvd.  I'm using MS movie maker, but I can't figure out how to tell it where to start and stop the clip, then how to save the clip to a separate file.  The help files in MM weren't much help.
