Hi,

There are many senarios for this:

1. Connect the cable to a router and the two PCs to the router.
2. Connect the cable to one PC and share the connection using: a. Bluetooth b. WiFi c. USB cable
3. Connect the cable to the desktop and have an additional NIC in it. Connect a UTP between the two PCs and share connection.

The following will help you a lot:

You should need a wireless router, and then setup home wireless network using your existing DSL line.

Why do I need to have a router? Can I replace the router with the switch?

A router is right device though and it is fairly cheap nowaday. Use switch if you want, but I dont know if there is wireless signal for your laptop unless you will use ethernet cable for laptop as well.

Hi,

If you are using a DSL modem then a switch is enough.
