Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close.

This happens when using Excel 2003 and trying to send an attachment by going ot File > Send to > Mail Recipient (As Attachment). This does not always happen and is unpredictable, although it happens a few times each day.  the error message is an Outlook.exe error. <See error Statment below. I have done the following:
Deleted Cache and rebuilt his Email profile - tested...same issue
     Repaired Office -  - tested...same issue
     Renamed  Excel 11.xlb and  Excel.xlb to .old.  -  - tested...same issue
     Renamed outcmd.dat to .old -  - tested...same issue

Hi,

Open Outlook in safe mode. At Start > Run > Outlook /safe (enter)

Open Excel and re-try.

If this works and you are able to attach the file in to an email message, perhaps an add-in is interfering.

If not, we may need to re-install Office 2003, though to a different folder than the default location.

The problem is that it is intermittent so testing it in safemode may be hard to do. Have any other ideas?

If your users are like me, they would open Outlook and keep till the end of work, right? If they open in safe mode, they can continue to work. As mentioned by you, this issue happens at least a few times each day.

We have a system that generates a word doc giving tour details and attaches it to Outlook email message. A similar problem occurred. I did not have the time to investigate and re-installed the entire Office 2003 suite. However, I did not use the default paths for the installation. I created different folders for office to be installed in. Have you tried that?
