Maximum length of HMTL input box / textarea

What is the maximum length (total number of characters) that can be put into a HTML textarea or input control?

I have a large amount of data - image characters encoded into base64 that I have to put somewhere to be received by a server.

It's something huge, like 64,000 characters.
