vmware questions

i have been asked to come uyp with a enviroment to limit downtime. we currently have a co location in another state and just replicate the data nothing else. I have seen one to one setups looking into clustering I have  a question about that and then I was told about vmware where you could run many servers on one box virtually and then have that mirrored on another box need a little hlep with this.

VMware is pretty tight about giving information, but you can sign up for a fre start kit here: http://info.vmware.com/content/GLP_BizVirt2?urlcode=AMER_Yahoo_Hero_VMware2&src=PaidSearch_07Q3_VMW_Yahoo_AMER_Yahoo_Hero_VMware2&ossrc=PaidSearch_07Q3_VMW_Yahoo_AMER_Yahoo_Hero_VMware2

This will get you all kinds of documentation and open a case number that you can use to get your questions answered.

i have a question about p2v assistant. can I go ahead and create virtual copies of all my servers tehn setup virtual server and import those virtual machines? my second question is when i creat eth evirtual machine what about teh data from say my file and print server how does that work does it make a copy of all tegh data to?
P2V assistant has been replaced by VMware converter but yes to your first question.  It's simply a drap and drop operation to to setup virtual servers.  We store our data on a SAN volume so if anything goes wrong with the VS the data is not lost.  We only snapshot the OS volume but you could snapshot your data as well.

Also, for 100% fail over you'll want to get VMware Virtual Center.
i just need some clarification. i will snapshot the os volume make it virtual and all teh data will be on teh server hard drive and will back this up with a backup exec. but my question is does all the data just sit on teh drive like sql data exchange data. etc i have about 5 servers i am going to virtualize with vmware convertor how will this work i mean the data etc?

You only snapshot the virtual machine.  To convert the physical server to a virtual machine you use VMware converter.  This utility takes you step by step, 1 server at a time, in converting your physical servers to virtual ones.  The conversion tool will mimick your physical servers configuration and create in a virtual environment.

i am in the process of doing that but what about the data? sql exchange etc?
