good server firewall

I am looking for a good software firewall to install on a SERVER.

I only have remote access to this server, so I need to a firewall that lets all ports open when first installed. I will then decide which ports to leave open.

My budget for this is $100.

Thanks.

"The Best" and your budget are at odds - the best has to be ISA server. I cant think of any firewall that starts with all ports open - it rather defeats the object.

Why would you use a software firewall?  Is that your only choice since the server is remote?

agreed, software firewalls on a server are a terrible Idea...even ISA is better off on its own dedicated box......100 bux......dont waste your time, go and buy two cases of beer and enjoy the week :)

more professionaly, there is virtually never a need for a software firewall ther than ISA....even windows firewall is useless on a server.

Given your budget I'd suggest either IPCop or Smoothwall.  Both are rock solid and have a decent GUI interface. Both are free and only require a modest PC to install on.

Monowall will work on even older machines and you can use it on embedded hardware if you need to.
