I had a similar problem on a server.  Suggest looking at Dimension 4 from Thinking Man Software. http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/

Free for personal use and not much more for commercial use.  Far easier to setup and worth the small cost over using the inbuilt time sync service.

I have installed shield deluxe time where it shows server time as well as local time. but my server time increases gradually. yesterday morning the difference was 0.5 sec.today morning the difference is 5 min. and when i say synchronize now sometimes it gives error message cannot contact ntp server.
and sometimes it synchronizes.

can any one help me with this . what is this ntp server and is there problem with my server.where can i correct this.

Thanks

I suggest you:

* Uninstall any other time sync software
* Install Dimension 4 from Thinking Man Software (http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/)
* Set the ntp server to pool.ntp.org
* Set the "how often" to every 5 minutes or so as it appears your clock is really out
* Ensure the "load at startup" box is ticked.
* On the Advanced page, tick the "load as service" option.

This is exactly the approach that I used on a server that was gaining an hour per day! Now all fixed and the only other solution was to replace the motherboard.

Have you replaced the CMOS battery like I suggested?

You mean which is on motherboard like big watch battery. what is the procedure to replace battery. do i need to take backup or something. and what will be the cost of battery approximately.

rindiCommented:
Yes, that battery. You can buy them in many shops and they cost similar to a watch battery. If you have special BIOS settings then just write those down. Otherwise just remove it with the power cord drawn from the server, and replace it with a new one. You'll just loose the BIOS settings, and the date and time settings, so re-enter them when you reboot.

They're a fairly standard battery these days.  Not normally used for watches now but a lot of other equipment use them.  From memory they're a CR2032.
