How can i smbumount a share i mistakenly mounted to /mnt. Everytime i list the contents of mnt it shows the share contents. I should have mounted to /mnt/test instead i mounted it to /mnt.

I cant restart the server it is production.

Are you in the /mnt directory? Because that would make it "busy". If so, cd ../

if not, try:
umount -lf /mnt

This is what worked based on "karlwilbur" i was able to look at the man pages and used this command:

umount -l /mnt

I means: Lazy Unmount , as soon as the filesystem is not been used will be unmounted and cleans all references. Don't know but it worked fine. Not even the -f switch worked..

So lazy unmount is good!

umount -f will not work if the FS is "busy" (i.e. has open references) you'll always need to umount -l (lowercase L as in Lazy)
