UART IC design

Hello, I would like to ask if anyone has useful resources to design a UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) with VHDL. I intend to design one and eventually fabricate it into an IC. Sorry i'm a newbie here..would give more points if i could.. :( Thanks in advance!

generally EE is best for software oriented engineers.
I'm very hardware oriented, I know the feeling. there is no web page like EE for hardware design.

VHDL / Verilog are still lag behind the new concept of "open source".

look at:
www.alse-fr.com/English/UARTS.pdf
www.opencores.com/browse.cgi/filter/category_commctrl
www.opencores.net/browse.cgi/best_rated

Hey Talmash..thanks alot for the help! Sorry i was away for quite sometime..
May i ask you another favour? Can you help me find more info about ACIA's instead of UARTS..ive decided to design a UART instead, maybe like a schematic diagram of an ACIA?or a VHDL coding for an ACIA..and for your great help i'll give you more points.....thanks alot!Really appreciate the help so far~!
