Exchange 2007 Single Server and the IMF

This question should be fairly straight forward for someone who knows.  I am just upgrading to 2007 (had to talk them into a x64 first) and I have completed the install and am currently co-existing with my 2003 box.  The 2003 is currently handling all of the external e-mail and it is also using IMF to do spam filtering.  I know that 2007 is capable of some more advanced filtering but it appears that it is associated with the edge transport roles (which I can't install on my single x64 server).  Is there a way to get the content filtering/IMF to work in a single server environment?

    Sha-Bam! There it is.

I can't thank you enough for this information.  While I like the ease and concepts of the indipendant server roles in ex2007.  I think that MS is leaving small org's like mine behind when they impose limits in features if you have only one server to deploy.  This has to make me wonder what will become of SBS in the future?

SBS is a different product and will do things differently. It is just during this period between the release of Exchange 2007 and the SBS product that smaller companies get caught in this kind of situation.

There is also a growing feeling in some quarters of the industry that if you aren't big enough to be using Exchange as Microsoft would prefer (multiple servers etc) then you should be using a hosted product. Some say anyone below 100 should be on hosted services.
