Are you trying to reindex the database?

Is the database on a local drive or network drive?

BTW: you do realise that ACT! 2000 will not connect to Office 2007?

ACT! 2000 won't even work with Office 2003 - as the product is that old, the Sys Requirements are no-longer listed, but here are the Requirements for ACT! 6.0 (2004): http://tinyurl.com/2bchw7
There was a Hotfix available for ACT! 6.0 (2004) to make it work with Office 2003
ACT! 10.0 (2008) is required for Office 2007

Can you try copying the database locally and seeing if you can open it?
