iphone will not send via smtp.company.com for outgoing mail server.

iphone will not send via smtp.company.com for outgoing mail server. It just keeps saying sending... at the bottom. Setup to use AT&T's Server and port and it worked. Where is the problem on this one? It's somewhere in Exchange 2003 i think. I need to get it back to the company's smtp somehow.
This is a big one for me.

SSL and authentication are two different things.
You can have anonymous access over SSL (and still be an open relay). Somewhere in the device settings will be a setting that the SMTP server requires authentication and an opportunity to enter username and password information.

Why do you need to get it back to the company SMTP server? It is simply being bounced off the server, nothing more. If the message is for an internal user then it will come in to the server in the usual way.

Have you configured the SMTP server on the device to authenticate when sending the email?

Yes, it was set for SSL ports on incoming and outgoing for the "Exchange" setup option.   Even though it declined to setup via SSL it assigned ports to it and set the check marks in the settings and would receive messages only still.
