Need to install a Msi file in only 100 machines out of 3000 machines.

Hi,

Need to install a Msi file in only 100 machines out of 3000 machines.
Is there a way that i put all the machine names in a group and can we push the msi to only those machines.

Any other easy way to do this...

Regards

It would be simpler if you could put all the machines in an OU and then use a Software Installation policy linked to the OU see http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/gp/group_policy_software.htm

If this is not possibe and there are other machines in the same container as the computers than you could put them into a security group and use group policy filtering - see http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Group-Policy-Security-Filtering.html

I added the Microsoft comunicator to the Software installation in GPO editor.
And added the Domain administrator name to the "Security Filtering"

What i want is the Software has to be installed to all machines in the OU who login with Administrator.

Cool that's OK. The same process applies (from  http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Group-Policy-Deploy-Applications.html) but apply the GPO to users instead of computers. Then change the permissions of the GPO so that it only applies to the Admin account.
