I have a request from one of our users to rename a mail enable account in exchange 2003 from "Marketing event" to "Marketing calenda". My worry is if I simply rename it as such would this cause any problem?

Or do I need to recreate new account?

thanks in advance.

If you create a new account it will have a new address and wont contain the relevent emails in the mailbox. You can safely rename the account AND the alias to the new name. Remember to rename the smtp address as well.
