Internet slow when connected to IPSEC VPN on Windows 2000 PC

Internet EXTREMELY slow when connected to IPSEC VPN on Windows 2000 PC.  I setup this VPN connection on 3 PC's - 1 Vista, 1 XP Pro, and 1 Windows 2000 Pro.

On ONLY the W2K machine the Internet and VPN speeds drop to about 1mph when the VPN is active.  terminate the VPN connection and the Internt speed goes back to 100mph.  Connect to the VPN and both the Internet and VPN drop back to about 1mph.  Works fine on the XP and Vista machines - this is happening only on the Windows 2000 pc.

Insure you have the latest driver installed on the windows 2000 machine. Also how much memory do you have installed in the machine. The cost of encryption could be bringing the device to a crawl.

Think it would be worth trying to swap out the nic? The machine is runningon only 256MB RAM, but its not the pc that slows down - just the Internet/VPN

It is possible the vpn client was not truly written for Windows 2000. I know of several products that claim backwards compatibility, only to have it fall on it's face. Are you running the same version of the client on all machines? Will an old client work with the firewall/VPN device? I resell Checkpoint Sofaware platforms and the R54 clients works for Windows 2000, but the R56+ does not, same situation.

Replacing the network adapter resolved this issue.  Please close.
