Modem driver for XP PRO on HP G5050EI

Hello Experts.  I have an HP notebook - HP G5050EI which came pre installed with vista basic.  I removed this and put XP PRO.  All the drivers were installed (obtained from hp website) except the modem.  I downloaded sp35942 from the compaq site as per instructions on the site.    When I run the setup file from this file the response is that modem device cannnot be found by driver.  I haved check the hp site again and this is the correct file for the modem driver.  Any ideas?

Does device manager see the device as an uninstalled device or something like that?

Hi All.  Thanks for the input.  going to conexant website now.  To answer the other question.  No, device manager sees nothing.  no error , no indication of modem, nothing.  almost like the laptop has no modem and yet it does
Hi EE.  sorry meant to award points to souseran. how do i correct this?
just to clarify how my problem was sovled
here is what happened.  downloaded the modem type detection tool from connexant and it kept looking for a file called uiusys.  turns out a previous installation hadnt completed and the option to not try to install again was selected.    I manually identified the file and the machine froze with a windows stop error.  I restarted the pc and the new hard device window showed up and i manually selected the folder.  It has now installed the driver.    Thank you.
