Strange VNC problem will not accept remote ctrl alt delete

I have VNC installed on over 200 machines where I work.  VNC is always configured for service mode and password protected.  On one machine, after entering authentication the screen comes up with "press ctrl-alt-delete to logon", but freezes halfway through drawing the screen.  Remote Desktop works fine.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, tried different versions, all to no avail.

Is the machine itself locked up?
Or can someone at the PC press CAD?
If they do that, do you then have control of the PC?

I have tried it with no one logged on, domain administrator logged on, and domain admin logged on with system locked.

I misread your question.  Everything works fine at the server and through remote desktop.

When you VNC and have the problem, Can someone go to the PC and press C - A - D from the PC Keyboard?

yes, but i don't see it through vnc.  It's like it is locked up.

So, if the PC is not at the login screen, you also can not control it with VNC?

no matter what the pc is doing, vnc always locks up as soon as you authenticate.

Ok, so it has nothing to do with control alt delete.
Anything unusual about the video or resolution?
This happens to any PC trying to connect VNC?
Can you VNC from this machine to others?
Will a reverse VNC session from this PC work?

Additionally, you could try reducing the colour depth of the VNC session before using C+A+D down to 8 colours to see if the redraw stops at the same place or gets further.

Steveo, you get the points.  There was a huge hq image used as a desktop and as soon as i removed it and replaced it with a standard background, everything is back to normal.

Hehe, there are "Remove Wallpaper" & "Remove Desktop Pattern" options built-in also. :)
