HELP - HP Deskjet Printer Printing blank pages - but Prints test page fine ????

A have a client with a printer problem. She has a HP Deskjet 840c printer connected to a Windows XP Home Edition computer. Her problem is when she pushes print on Works, Word, Outlook Express etc,  the printer gets the paper and it runs it through the printer and it seems as if it is printing but it spits out a blank paper.

I have eliminated the  Ink cartridges being empty, or faulty,  as the printer prints a full color test page using the"print test page" from the printer properties menu. And to make things stranger, it does print webpages from Internet Explorer.

What I have not tried is reinstalling the drivers yet. From what I have read, reinstalling the drivers does not seem to fix the problem - but I am going to give it a go anyway.

Similar problems, with no real answers (May help eliminate obvious answers):

If anyone has ever actually solved this issue, please come forward! . And please, no obvious comments like "Get a new Printer!".

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you very much in advance!

Since it prints from IE, go into the Page Setup settings there.Have you gone. Capture a screenshot of those settings, and then click on Printer and capture the settings there. Compare these against the Page Setup settings in the programs that won't print.

crnz,

Odd issues like this are sometimes fixed by deleting the printer and reinstalling it.  It wouldn't be the first time I have seen that fix a wierd thing.  Make sure your drivers are up to date and valid for your OS.

If the problem persists then do you have this printer installed more than once in the Printer's folder.  It almost seems like Work, etc is using a different printer from the browser and the test you did.  How many printers appear in the Printers folder?

Can you print from Notepad or other non-MS programs?

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

@souseran

Have already compared these, and they appear to be exactly the same. Havnt gone as far as screenshots yet though. Will double check these settings when I go back.

Yeah, fingers crossed reinstalling printer does work. Just want to be prepared if it doesn't.

There is only 1 computer under Printers in the control panel.

Cant print from any programs that I am aware of apart from Internet Explorer and Print Test Page function. Notepad, Wordpad all rpint blank pages :(

Thank you for your quick responses.

I had the same problem with a system. Try to do a system repair. I worked for me.

After reinstalling drivers, the printer still had the same problem. The client and I soon came to an agreement that the printer was faulty and it would be in her best interest to buy a new printer. So once again, no real answers here im afraid.
