this is normally due to a fault reading the disk.

Try the disk in another drive first (perhaps the one that saved the data there in the first place?) and see if it's readable there.

Then, try some other disks in the drive that showed the error.

This should tell you whether it's the disk or the drive at fault.  Floppys are pretty delicate - dust, scratches, exposure to magnetic sources (speakers, televisions, mobile phones, etc) can damage them.

It can either be the floppy disc, or the drive itself (particularly if it hasn't been used for a long time).

Did it ever work ok before?

You can:
1) Get another floppy disc and try to format it on your drive- preferably one that is sure to be ok and working on another computer.
2) Try to copy data to the newly formatted disc and try to read it back. On the same drive and on a different computer as well.

3) if all fails, you can get a "cleaning" floppy disc, or try to gently vaccum/blow air into the drive. Or just get a new floppy drive.
