get latest drivers for both

How does it mess things up? does it lose the connection to the hp or does the print just come out badly how is the hp connected parrelel or usb?

It's USB, After installing tghe seiko label printers, the HP 4050 prints:

 PCL XL error
Subsystem Kernal
IllegalOperatorSequence
Position:7

If I remember correctly the 4050 has a parelle connection if the PC it is connected to has a parralel port as a sort term fix consider using that.

Then again it may be  fails on that port it may be the drivers in general there is a issue as detailed here http://www.planet-winner.com/web2/KB/Front_Office/PCL_XL_Error_when_printing_to_HP_Laserjet_printers.htm

you could try using another older or none PCL driver, possibly PS driver.

Or install a network print server onto the HP.
